Benefits of active humidification (with humidifier) over passive humidification (with HME filter) became apparent during COVID, as patients had less complications during long-term ventilation. Consequently, global demand for humidifiers substantially increased.
Following the success of Fisher & Paykel MR850, many companies developed and launched derivatives of its design. Simplicity, easiness-to-use and affordability made it a wide-spread, standard humidifier. However, it became so popular that majority of companies active in respiratory market now offer such a device.
On the other hand, there are only few solutions that offer value-adding features (Fisher & Paykel MR950 and Hamilton Medical H900 being examples of such premium models). Thus, the market for innovative humidifiers is far from being saturated and certainly offers a blue ocean development opportunity.
